Around Us Photography Exhibition at the Burrard Arts Foundation
The Burrard Arts Foundation (BAF) announces its latest upcoming exhibition, Around Us, in partnership with Project Society, another non-profit organization dedicated to supporting emerging artists. Around Us will feature photography by nine emerging and contemporary Canadian artists, including: Olga Abeleva, Rebecca Bair, Jeff Downer, Dennis Ha, Shizen Jambor, Jake Kimble, Katie Kozak, Sylvain Sailly and Gloria Wong. United by the medium of photography, Around Us presents the works of nine contemporary Canadian artists who explore abstract, adjacent and/or satirical notions of the self. The artists explore the overlapping encounters between places and people in tandem with the signs, symbols and private languages that develop as a result of this coexistence. Exploring this dynamic, self-representations move beyond the typical self-portraiture to art forms that represent not just the artists, but the communities, places and neighborhoods they frequent, as well as the gallery in which the art is exhibited. Using collaboration as a methodology, the exhibition represents a long-term commitment to knowing ourselves, each other and all that surrounds us, as informed by stories of everyday experiences, intimate interactions and relationships. that accumulate and change over time.
